When possible, avoid lawn mowing, weed pulling, and other gardening tasks which can lead to stirring up the pollen. If you are outside in the yard, it is best to wear a mask and change clothes once coming inside.

2. Watch the Pollen Counts

Seasonal allergies often flare up when there is a lot of pollen in the air. You can check your local TV or radio station in the spring and summer for pollen forecasts and current pollen levels. If you find out that high pollen counts are projected, go ahead and take allergy medication before your symptoms begin. At night, be sure to close doors and windows to keep the pollen from getting inside your home, and avoid outdoor activities in the early morning when the pollen counts are generally the highest.

3. Keep Indoor Air Clean

It is understandable that pollen is heavily found outdoors. While there is no miracle product that can eliminate allergens from inside your home, there are some ways to try and reduce your risk for allergy flare-ups. Use your air conditioner inside your home and car as much as possible which will keep moisture in the air. Be sure to also change out the air filters in your home regularly to keep the air as clean as possible. It is also a good idea to run a humidifier at night so you don’t wake up in the morning feeling congested.

4. Test Out Over-the-Counter Remedies
